cinema stress

I can't complain about too few movies showing at the moment. In fact last friday I counted six movies I wanted to see immediately: Caché (will see tonight), Jeune homme, Jo Siffert, Good Night Good Luck, On a clear day (seen on friday) and L'enfant. Ok after tonight I'll have two less which makes it four. Not very interesting I know so I'll finish this post by staying on topic and saying that you MUST go and see On a clear Day! A proper feelgood movie without the US cheese...

Funky Cops

Every now and then when zapping around I come across the tv series funky cops. A great cartoon series that I simply love for it's fresh and fast retro design, the cool music and the strange stories.

howl's moving castle

I went to see howl's moving castle yesterday night. What can I say? The plot is way too complicated for a short blog entry.. as per usual but that's what makes them anmiés so great! The film is a rollercoaster ride through different worlds with lots of fantastic characters (my favourite being the scarecrow) incredible machines and twists and turns in the story. I highly recommend checking it out, although not quite as good as spirited away but a top movie for sure! movie website in japanese

the darkness of the "new tv series"

Watching a few of the "newer breed" of US tv series such as lost, nip/tuck, desperate housewifes, 24, csi miami etc. I noticed, how dark they are shot. Seing them on an lcd screen is even worse. Is our world gone black? It might look very cool and tense but to my eyes and my personal sense of aesthetics this is nothing but rubbish. I don't see the reason why some scenes are plain black for several minutes while some episodes haven't got a single sunray or a source of natural / bright light at all. I don't get it please help! Maybe I should go back and watch nightrider to cheer up...

Snow White

Yesterday I went to see Samir's new film "Snow White". A Swiss film and a good one at that! White daddy's girl meets suburban rap star and the drama begins. Most of it is nicely shot in Zurich which shows that you an actually turn a movie in this town. However the clichés are too obvious at times, and it almost seems that the film comes a couple of years too late with the whole party hype being past its peak. Carlos Rea as Paco is playing a superb part. Not so great but fairly constant is Julie Fournier as Nico. The whole camera and cut is too conservative for that kind of film. Only at one point they display a bit of what they're able to: When the girls are cooking pasta.. Good film nonetheless, especially for Swiss standards which rings so many bells if you happen to live and breath in Zurich that it's almost uncomfortable to watch. movie webpage

dawn of the dead

seen this zombie flick yesterday with tom downpressor and must say this is one funny thing to watch. If you like your heads go up in style you should check it out. not to be missed: the feature on how they prepared those heads of actors to be shot! I also had a solid look at the PSP and almost fell in love with this portable game console. Damn good screen and a great look & feel. I must no buy it, it will be no good for me!

Harvey Krumpet

After having seen this lil movie about half a year ago on telly it was showing again last week and I needed to watch it again. Harvey Krumpet is a lovely feller and I'm sure you'll agree. Great animation cinema with lots of deepness and plenty of sadness. I didn't know the film was so successful with all the festival prices won but well deserved!
