Intergroove bankrupt

One of the most important vinyl distributors in the UK, Intergroove has declared bankruptcy today. This is sad news, as many top breaks labels (Marine Parade, TCR, Finger Lickin', Boombox, Lot49, 10Kilo, Mob etc.) went through Intergroove. But as much as it's sad for the labels and artists and the staff involved, it is probably only a sign of how the business model of distributors is outdated and needs to change very fast or they'll become dispensable. Not affected is Intergroove Germany, who we used to deal with. They seem to steer clear of this with better results than ever. Good luck to everyone affected and fingers crossed!

lame servers

What are ASUS up to with their drivers download page? I mean are they serious?? I get some 5.1KB/s max download speed and I sit on a massive pipe here, it's definately their server. Can this be true in 2007 or are they just having a laugh at their consumers?

Die Schweiz hat eine Website..und keiner kennt sie!

Naja ganz neu ist diese Meldung ja auch wieder nicht, aber zumindest für mich kommt sie deutlich aufgefrischt daher, die Seite der Schweiz, www.ch.ch. Während das Portal früher vor allem Negativschlagzeilen machte, war ich völlig überrumpelt, als ich heute die Seite mal wieder besuchte: Ein wirklich gut gemachter Auftritt! Jetzt fragt sich bloss, wer benutzt ch.ch? Wer kennt ch.ch? und überhaupt: Wer hat den ganzen Müll auf Rumantsch übersetzt?

A new workhorse

After 4 years of intensive use, my beloved studio PC who gave me so much trouble will be retired. And what you see below are the innards of the new system. I was going to recycle some parts of the old buddy.. but the industry won't let me: AGP grafic cards? no longer on the board. RAMBUS ram? (a huge investment at the time) long forgotten. And I'm not even talking about mainboard or IDE harddrives. One could argue I didn't need a new PC. I think it was about time and if all goes well it will last another 4 years. It'll sure give me a major performance boost, allowing me to use thousands of plugins at once. Well maybe hundreds..

I'll put you through

Don't we all love it? Call somewhere, ask for something and then the obvious reply: "I'll put you through!" A halfway intelligent person would call the destination, talk briefly to this person verifying that a) the problem is understood and b) the person is at the desk. Unfortunately most companies / agencies just put you through. Under normal circumstances you end up on an answering machine of yet another person since the destination man / woman has diverted his line even further. Too complicated? Yes indeed. And very frustrating too. And just when I type these lines, a woman calls back. She thinks she has missed an important call and does know nothing. Too bad when work is lurking round the corner of a phone eh?

Beck

I love Beck. In fact he is the only artist I buy without even listening to the CD before I actually (physically) buy his albums. All of them. And I'll buy his new album "Information" just like every other. Even more as I just read about this story: His album artwork is so unconventional (you can design it yourself by using the stickers that come with it), that the album did NOT qualify for British album charts! True story today in a shop in Zurich: A girl is looking through some posters.. She asks the shop assistant (a girl in her age, maybe 19): "Is this the only poster of the Beatles you have got?" The shop assistant replies: "Who are the Beatles?"

Off to Venecia

I'm off to venecia for two days. With me, my new camera. If all goes well I'll find a minute to test it :) Also very funny: To be working in the company I used to work for five years ago and now back being consulting them. Well.. well.. what can I say except it's a very weird feeling!
